The IMIM Programme

The International Master in Innovative Medicine (IMIM) is a two-year MSc curriculum of excellence that provides training in translational biomedical research. Its overall aim is to educate the next generation of outstanding translational scientists, entrepreneurs, and innovators, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to work effectively in different disciplines, sectors, and countries.

Jointly Organized

IMIM is jointly organised by four universities: the University of Groningen (the Netherlands), Heidelberg University (Germany), the University of Tartu (Estonia) and Uppsala University (Sweden). IMIM students will benefit from extensive resources and experience in biomedical sciences offered by these institutions, as well as  their networks in both academic and private sectors.

The University of Groningen serves as the coordinating institution, so most general IMIM communication, aside from study programme-specific matters, is handled by Groningen.

A Double Degree

IMIM is a double degree programme, meaning that students who completed the required mobility programmes at the different European partner universities will receive degree certificates from both institutions.

International Network

In the IMIM programme, students follow tailor-made training at a minimum of two of the four European partner universities and have the further opportunity to undertake research at one of IMIM’s private sector industry partners. Additionally, students can pursue internships with one of our Latin American partners, including: Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil), Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (Chile), Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia), and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico). IMIM also has an established collaboration with Kyoto University (Japan), offering further internship opportunities.

Interdisciplinarity

Alongside their courses and research projects, IMIM students will participate in Bench to Bedside and Beyond (BBB) projects throughout the four semesters, focusing on translational research and bringing science to society. This includes a multidisciplinary group project which is designed to foster students’ business and entrepreneurial skills. On top of this, students will take part in the Kick-OffSpring SchoolSummer School, and VentureLab Weekend, designed to develop their soft skills and business savvy.
